Deep Learning: Why Now?

Deep learning has taken massive strides in recent years and is becoming increasingly popular (alongside the wider field of machine learning) in commercial and academic settings. Why is the growth of the field changing so rapidly and what is different now to 10 or 20 years ago?

This talk will include an overview of the history of neural networks and a discussion around reasons for their growth from single neuron to the deeply connected networks being developed today.

Objective of the talk

This talk will give insight into the history of neural networks and deep learning, and will explain major developments contributing to the growth of the field.
